Morser Karl (1)

Album image #1
Overview of the Karl @ 1/72 scale, with a Panzer IV, but at 1/76 scale.

Album image #2
Basically a 3 in 1 kit, two transport rail cars and the cannon.

Album image #3
Lots of detailed parts in each kit. Added earth weathering to the tracks and wheels.

Camo paint job was my continued attempt to us my airbrush for finer details. While not obvious the base color is dark yellow followed by brown and green.

Weathering was done on trucks and sides of the transport car.

Weathering was done on trucks and sides of the transport car.

Album image #9
Painting the tracks with four colors. Painting of rails, homemade rust wash on sides and dull aluminum on top. Sleepers were individually painted with dark gray between. Light gray was used for the ballast w/ a darker gray on the sides of the plateform.

Thank you for looking. Suggestions are always welcome. I have another kit in my stash to start and it will be a bit different finish, but lessons learned from building this one will help.

Very nice. Even in scale 1/72, this promises to be huge.

Album info

1/72 scale version of the "Karl-Gerät" (040/041) (German literally "Karl-device"), also known as Mörser Karl (this one named Thor), was a World War II German self-propelled siege mortar (Mörser) designed and built by Rheinmetall. Its heaviest munition was a 60 cm (24 in) diameter, 2,170 kg (4,780 lb) shell, and the range for its lightest shell of 1,250 kg (2,760 lb) was just over 10 km (6.2 mi). Each gun had to be accompanied by a crane, a two-piece heavy transport set of railcars, and several modified tanks to carry shells.
