The trees were made using strands of armiture wire wound together. This was painetd with PVA and then with soft white poly filler, and then brush coated with tamiya filller and polycement mised together. The bark texture was carved using a scalepel blade. The trunks were sculpted using 2 part green stuff and then treated similarly. The branches are just glued on seafom twigs from Gaugemaster. A lot of these have since fallen off so i will have to have another go at attaching these.
The base was sculpest using block styrofoam and lined with balsa. The top of this was coated with a mud/pva mixture and then sprinkled with selected gravel and sand from the garden to add variation in texture. The stones were added while this is wet so they become fixed in place.
When I finished the Sherman I knew that I really wanted to build a diorama for it to sit in, and now I am! This will be my first 1/35th scale diorama. This will take inspiration from some of my source images used when building the kit.
