Porsche 911 SC RS - Belga Team - Droogmans/Joosten

Album image #1
First steps is making the panel lines a bit sharper and deeper. Also adding a small line around the side indicators. That'll be handy later on when trying to replicate the black (rubber) line around the indicator.

Album image #2
Rear bumper needs some adapting and the fit out of the box is not 100%

Album image #3
More trouble in dry-fitting land. The clear parts of the rear lights are not well formed. Seem correct in size, but they don't follow the curvature of the body. Will make for some interesting glueing later on as it doesn't seem to be fixable at this state.

Album image #4
I don't think that the Fuchs wheels that are in the kit have been used during the Haspengouwrally - so far I didn't find any pictures of the Porsche using the Fuchs wheels during the rally. Most pictures show Gotti rims in the back and Ronal rims on the front.

Reji provides as nice set for the rear wheels - pictured on the left.

The Ronal rims are from Renaissance. These are intended to be put under an Opel, so I had to modify them a bit. I also believe that no slick tires were used during the rally, so I sourced some appropriate rubbers from the scrap box.

The finished model will eventually be fixed to a baseplate.
For this reason I always drill a whole through the chassis where on the inside a bolt will be glued in place.
Here the model is being positioned on the baseplate, and the whole has been drilled.

Album image #8
Aligment of the interior and chassis, bolt glued in place

Album image #9
Test fit of the seats to see if there is no issue with the bolt underneath it.
Fits!
Note the side panel has already been painted in black.

Album image #10
First details painted on the underside using Alclads: engine, exhaust, gearbox.

Album image #11
First weathering of the chassis prior to mounting the components. Muffler just placed for the photo.

Album image #12
All chassis components are now in place.

Album image #13
Wheels dry fitted.
Is doesn't show the very loose fitment of the rear wheels from the Reji set. It turned out that the mounting pins are just to thin to fit correctly in the poly cabs.

Album image #14
Checking out fitment of wheels into the arches. Seems ok.

Album image #15
Trying to "thicken up" the mounting pins by sliding small pieces of brass rod over it.

Album image #16
But the inevitable happened, of course. 🙂
Both pins snapped off...

Album image #17
Trying to fix the issue by inserting pieces of brass rod into the poly cabs and opening up the wheels.

Album image #18
Seems to be a good fitting.
I'll cover the center piece with a small 2mm discs inserts at the end of the build.

Album image #19
The Nunu kit has the rear spoiler of a 911 SC RS as used in 1984.
The 1985 Porsches used a slightly different spoiler with what appears a SC top and a Turbo model base.

I modified the Nunu spoiler by bashing the base of a 911 Turbo from a Fujimi kit.
It took some test fitting etc and it's probably not 100% perfect, but for sure better than the 1984 "flat base" (if that makes sense).

The PE protective plates for the bottom of the chassis are a really nice addition.
The PE set from Nunu is a seperate set but is recommendable (also for the interior, seat belts etc.)

Album image #59
Only the external PE parts and some other bits and pieces are remaining now.

Album image #60
Porsche is completed.

Not a perfect kit, nor a perfect built, but more than good enough.

Regarding this rearlight assembly: i had the Same problem. My attempt was to fix the clear part with some clothespins on the reflector part, heat it up with a hairdryer and leave it that way until all was cooled down -> the clear part had then exactly the shape of the reflector. Unfortunately the rearlight Assembly stil did not fit well at all…

Windshield whipers included in the Detail up set are also kind of rubbish…
