PZL M-18 Dromader + Weimar T174-2 - East Germany, 1989
Preparing 3D file for the plane.
The PZL M18 Dromader is printed.
You can now guess that it is an airplane. Still quite a lot of work for such a self-printed resin model.
First panel lines are done. The 3D file is very poor detailed. Actually you only get the rough formed body. I used the Revell engraving tool to make some rivets.
The wings have nearly no details on the lower side. On the upper side I already engraved some panel lines. They are also very very thick in proportion. I did a lot of sanding to get the flaps on the edges sharp.
Some exterior parts added. I used a Red Bull can to make the parts.
Nearly done with detailing. Not perfect at all, but you can tell it's an M18.
The airplane is primed now.
Pre-shading is done. I used a brown color instead of black. With the yellow surface it would be too much contrast with black pre-shading.
First layer of main color is sprayed.
Final layer and post shading with a brightened yellow is finished.
2 additional colors sprayed. The engine, of course, will have another finish later.
Next color step done. All the rest will be made with brush, except the gloss and matt finishings. Unfortunately, there is nothing left of the engraved rivets. The resin is probably too hard for the Revell tool to go into depth.
Closs coat is sprayed and the decals are created and printed.
Decals applied and sealed with Emsal Bodenglänzer.
Now ready for weathering.
Wash is done with a mix of lighter fluid and Schmincke Vandyck-Brown oil color.
Small positioning sample on the base.
Final weathering is done. Antennas and handles are glued. That means: finished this M18 Dromader! More and better pictures will follow.
Painting some 3D printed figures. Not sure yet which of them I will use for the diorama.
Here are some final pictures for the M-18. Now I can start with the T174.

That thing is really tiny.
Lots of PE parts are included. This is the first time I have worked with such small metal parts in larger numbers. It's not that easy to bend everything neatly and glue it with superglue.
Cables and wires really take a lot of time
Main parts ready and cleaned for paint job.
All parts are sprayed with primer.
Main colors applied. I used lightened blue to accentuate some of the surface
Cables and cockpit painted.
Wheels are painted. Masking for painting the warning stripes
Paint job should be done now. Windows are glued with Micro Crystal Clear. Next steps are weathering effects.
Preparing the shovel construction. Used hairspray to simulate chipped paint. Next step will be rust effects

Chris T. AnThis is the first time for me to tackle a complete resin kit. And when I look at the individual parts, it will be a real challenge. There is an extreme amount of rework needed on each part. Hope I can get it to work.

Alex KA 3D-printed PZL Dromader???!!! Following for sure!! (The Grand Models cast-resin kit is perhaps above my skills - and I still wait for the Karaya injection one...). Your ag-aircraft & ground equipment dio will turn... monumental! 👍

Chris T. AnThank you all for watching. Alex, I also saw the Grand Models kit for the M18, but I was frightened from some build reviews, there is a lot of rework to do on that kits. I have now the same or a bit more work, but I got the 3D file for free from Thingiverse.
I am really not a Pro in sratch building but I will try to engrave some panel lines and add some more greeblies to the plane. The 3D file is very poor in details.

Chris T. AnRobert, you can have a look to the Grand Models resin kits. I am much more disappointed that there is no kit in 1:72 and no 3D file of a PZL 106 Kruk. I would spend some money on that because it would fit perfect to the Dromader and Cmelák.

Robert PodkońskiActually, that is something that makes me angry too - I would love to see (and buy) decent kits of "Wilga" and "Kruk" (not mentioning PZL M-15 "Belphegor" 😉 )... but apparently no Polish manufacturers are interested in preparing these.

Alex KGuys... let's look a bit at the bright side: who would have thought a few years ago that one day (today!) there would be kits of the Cmelak, the Dromader, the Grumman AgCat (in both 1:72 & 1:48!!!), the Piper Pawnee?! Some are short-run, some are cast-resin, some are 3D-files-to print - nevertheless, something is slowly moving towards that direction! So, yes, I do hope too there will be someday a Kruk available in 1:72 or a Belphegor! And your buys of such kits and your modelling work proves that there's some interest in such topics! Keep it up! 👍

Chris T. AnRobert, I can understand that it is confusing, but in the GDR, "Dromedar" was actually used. This is the German translation of the word. Feel free to search for pictures of it, here would be an example: [img1]

Chris T. AnIt is not easy to find out with which lettering the excavator was delivered in the color used in the respective year of construction. I'll have to see which decals I print out.

I printed a PZL M-18 Dromader to add it to the East German agricultural flight diorama project. Both planes, the M-18 and the Z-37 were used in my home region more than 30 years ago.
This excavator kit is the next step for my diorama. My dad was a crane operator in the T174, filling what we called "Düngerstreuer". So it is the perfect accessory to the Z-37 Cmelák and the M-18 Dromader.
