Nice scene, I've tried to do the smoke as well on my latest project, but I'm going to reveal it when the scene is done, but I think we've used the same method, it's surely a challenge

Thanks for the comments, chaps. I'll get some more pics up soon. The smoke is what I'm least satisfied with--well, that and the faces on the British figures.

The battle damage was hard to do. This is the fist time I've build a tank from Rye Field Models, and it was a superb kit--just a joy to build. The detail was magnificent, the tracks were brilliantly design, the part-fit was outstanding. And I had to bore holes in it and twist parts and replace bits with aluminium foil . . . I felt like I was doing it a disservice.

Smoke (and flames) are tough, the Holy Grail so to speak. And no I don't already got one. I may never do a wreck dio, but I thought this was an interesting method to make a "real" column of smoke.

I wonder if it would be possible to add a dye to the glycerin to make the smoke darker? Also, you'd have to add some kind of liner to the inside of a model to keep it from getting coated in glycerin. Anyway, thought it was a cool idea.

Here are some more photos. According to my sources, the Dingo was hit with an armour-piercing shot, which is why I didn't show any explosive damage on it. The account said the shell passed right behind the heads of the officer and driver and exited through the other side! There's no account of exactly how the tank was damaged, but the explosion seems to have killed all the crew and blew Von Thoma out of the tank--at least, he was the only survivor. And it's just as well he survived, given the information he inadvertently passed on to the Allies a little later!

Nice work Mark and thanks for your 'retelling' of Von Thoma's capture. Being a bit of a history buff, I wasn't aware of these events, so I looked it up and found this quote on his wiki bio.
"Churchill's high regard for Thoma is evident from his many later quotations of Thoma's opinions on strategic matters, especially in his book about the war. After Montgomery invited Thoma to dine with him in his private trailer, Churchill remarked: "I sympathize with General von Thoma: Defeated, in captivity and... (long pause for dramatic effect) dinner with Montgomery".
Hilarious!

I don't know if it's apocryphal, but my favourite exchange between Churchill and Montgomery is as follows:
Monty: I don't drink and I don't smoke, and I'm 100% fit.
Churchill: Well, I drink, and I smoke, and I'm 200% fit.
