If you want to try using putty but don't like Tamiya's imo obnoxious toxic putty, I can recommend Vallejos white putty. Just take into account that the putty will shrink, the more is applied. A trick to avoid putty shrinking, is to fill more putty into a hole than required, so the putty stands out like an ice cream cone or something, then wait to let it dry, then cut off the excess putty with a blade, then sand smooth. Sometimes you will want to be careful applying putty, using masking tape, else you risk there is too much putty that goes hard and is harder to remove again, so you could just put some putty on a finger tip, and wipe the putty across some small gap and quickly use a moist cotton bud to clean up the excess putty around the cavity.
