I've wanted to build a P-51D Mustang for a long time. At the same time, the story of the Tuskegee unit, which mainly hosted African-American pilots, has always intrigued me. When I saw this kit of Hasegawa by chance, I couldn't help buying it. Molded in 1991, this kit is considered quite old by modeling standards, but I can say it's almost perfect. The plastic injection quality, thin panel lines, sufficient number of rivets and crystal clear canopy glasses, which I was afraid to crack due to their thinness, are the outstanding features of a very enjoyable model. As paint, I used Vallejo Chrome on glossy black primer on the metallic sections. The remaining colors are Mr.Hobby/Gunze as always. Although I used H329 as red on top, I used H467 paint as a primer because of its hiding power. The decals are also near perfect, but their tendency to crumple surprised me a little. The fact that the kit is dated 2011 may be the reason for this. I used Aqueous Mr.Hobby as glossy varnish, water-based Model Master as satin lining, Aqueous Mr.Hobby as matte varnish for the tires and propeller blades. Normally I try not to use this last one because it dries with an extremely dusty appearance on the model, but unfortunately I didn't have any other matte varnish for the tires. Eduard mask and PE sets are of standard quality, but I did not use all of them, I only used parts of the visible areas e.g. belts, instrument panels.
Finally, although companies such as Airfix and Eduard have molded the P-51D recently, this kit came from 30+ years ago and can easily compete with them, I would definitely recommend it.
