What is known as the ST. Nazaire-Raid today, is certainly one of the many instances of interesting British ideas for special operations during the Second World War. In order to deny the German Kriegsmarine the use of the St. Nazaire drydock for operating their large surface vessels (i.e Tirpitz) in the Atlantic more freely, it was (to no joy of the french I suppose) decided to stage a raid to put it out of action.
