Roland SachsenhoferBesides Martin Mars, there are other projects going on - although 'side project' always sounds so disrespectful. In reality, these are models that really excite me, the kits are excellent, with a few goodies you can add a little more value, and the original machines are a dream anyway!
Just like here: I'll show you 'The White Rocket'! This T-38A Talon was used by the Mercury astronauts as a training device, another interesting story. The kit from Wolfpack is good, but a few etched parts from Eduard in the cockpit and above all the 3D print of the two jets at the rear increase the degree of realism even further.

Roland SachsenhoferThese five pictures show the latest status: the surfaces, decals included, are finished, now the assembly of the various antennas, sensors, landing gear, airbrakes, pitot tube, canopy.... canopy can begin! So, at least the final is already in sight 🙂

Roland SachsenhoferThis build has now come to an end: a generally pleasing modelling experience, even if I was a little disappointed with this - for me - first Wolfpack kit: the fit of the parts was wonderful, the detailing was pleasing - for example in the cockpit area and the well-represented complex hinge mechanisms of the two cockpit canopies. But then: the undercarriage, airbrakes, the turbine outlets... it was all rather 'meagre'.... Accordingly, some improvements were needed here: a cockpit interior set from Eduard and an etched parts set that helped to detail the undercarriage and - very helpfully - the airbrakes. The fabulous nozzles from ResKit were also a really good investment! I love the decals and also the decal version from Wolfpack: in the look presented here, this T-38A 'The White Rocket' was flown by Deke Slayton and 'Wally' Shirra in the astronaut training of the Mercury programme - a fact that fascinated me.

Nathan DempseyWelcome Dutch! This build is turning into a slog. Clamps and super-glue "force-holds" galore. Luckily it is a tiny plane so I'm nearly done already, just completing all the seam sanding.

Nathan DempseyWorking on the cowl. I had to use 2-part epoxy clay to fill a large gap on the bottom of the cowl that was created by making the cowl fit straight & level.

Nathan DempseyToday has seen the underside color selected and applied (Tamiya X-14 Sky Blue) along with masking/painting the cowl colors using Steel & Red.

Nathan DempseyI'm using both AK & Mig panel wash. For the bottom I used Grey-Blue and for the top I haven't decided whether I'll use a dark brown or black wash. Of course for the black areas I'll use the Stone Grey wash which I think is Mig.

Nathan DempseyThanks Dutch! Today I completed painting the canopy framing and the wheels. Also my clear gloss arrived in the mail today, so I'll be able to apply that to the entire aircraft. After that I only need to paint the anti-glare panel on the upper cowl. Nearing the finish line.

Weathering n panel lines need more learning.
The IAR-80 was decent price from HB and liked the paint scheme...bit different

They said to paint interior charcoal black like on the FW-190.
But l checked n the Romanian lAR interior was grey/blue.
Engine building next 6 parts deal.

A small amount of the wing is seen through bottom of cockpit, the HB instructions didn't mention painting it first!!
But the fit of the model be ok so far.

Mr DHi, Yes lve used it alot and holds up really well , l find the fillers a bit messy and more trouble than it's worth on small gaps.
You do need to allow overnight drying with it for best sanding results.

Mr DYes it has a habit of filling in panel lines n bits not necessary!!
This technique is same as using alot of paint to fill a gap or high build primer ect...just becomes part of the paint layer as it acrylic too.
But it's not for big gaps!! As there is a bit of shrinking overnight.
Be onto marking rivets next step after sanding... Then need to make choices on open or closed canopy???

Ive got the canopy on now, HB do nice clear glass, so I'm having a closed cockpit,
So bit of masking to do there next.

Mr DThanks Miguel, the pen needs a good shake prior to use , if it awkward area you can pump some out n use brush...but work fast.
Best to put a clear over next day as it's bit delicate.

Yes l just get cheap ones of eBay, the do different sizes, you can pull ends n spring out for barrel look, or file ends last to have a recoil cannon look.
The gun turret nearly there now....lots of sanding n filling low spot.

Thanks for your interest. Nice to know you had it too, l built X3 the Tu airliner and the bomber. But this was my favourite as l liked the shape and that it had floats n guns.

Bit of fine sanding n tidying to do next then look at getting an engine effect in cowling area.
I replaced side vent for smaller one now, checked photos... and l made it way to big.

Mr DHi, it dries 100% clear but is slow.. to air dry ..so leave overnight.
But it's worth it as very strong. And is very neutral on paint and clear parts.
It's almost like an air drying epoxy, not harsh like super glue or poli ...very safe.
I only use it on clear stuff as it's stronger than PVA but not good for general building.. l do use it to fill gaps sometimes.

For me, this time is also an experiment. It's my first time to build a kit like this way.
I'm looking for a quick way to save time while I'm busy at work.
This time I didn't use primer or do pre-shading.
I airbrushed whole fuselage with the main color.
Then refer to photos, hand brushed the darker and lighter colors to create difference.
I think this make the shade effect.
Until this process, only water-based acrylic paint had been used.
In the #13~#15 pictures shown, I have used Mr. Weathering's black to create the panel line.
Yesterday, I covered the plane with mat varnish, I found that the contrast became smaller.
I think I should increase the contrast before the mat varnish in the future.
My weathering process is not over yet.
Oil paints, color pencils, etc. may be used to enhance the effect.
