Hey zach Wilson, oh yes you can say that. I'm curious how I'll deal with it 🙂

Nice to see another Belfast WIP. You made an excellent start on it 👍
I started mine in 2013 (not a joke) but had a lot of time in between not working on the model. I hope to finish her soon. Feel free to have a look to my WIP here on Scalemates:

Looking forward to your progress and Happy Modelling 🙂

Q: How do you deal with any annealing issues? I thought that annealing metal small might melt off the smallest parts. Haven't tried annealing yet myself, except for a large PE piece on some project.
10 January 2023, 20:54

@Treehugger: I generally don't glow PE parts. I glue all PE parts with the MXBON superglue in viscous, liquid and very liquid. Due to the capillary effect, the adhesive quickly gets into the crack, so I can press the part with a pin, two seconds and the part is fixed. If small gaps remain, use a fine pin to put a very thin layer of superglue (it has to be very liquid!) into the gap and press it down again with the needle. So far it works very well for me.
10 January 2023, 21:01

Very nice progress. The PE work on the aeroplanes are very good.

R K check the hight of the boat deck house aft of the forward funnel. I extended the hight a few milimeter, otherwise the boats on the cradles below will not fit! Check image 112 - 118 in my WIP. Add the one or other milimeter more than I did because of some layers of paint on the deck, cradles boats etc.!
Nice progress by the way 👍
Happy Modelling, Christian

@christian Bruer Thank you for the hint! I had already seen that when looking through your pictures and in fact the height doesn't match.

excellent work Rene. What are you using to hold the smaller pieces in place as you glue them together? Looking at image 21 I am baffled by how precise and clean that work is.

27 February 2023, 20:32

Thank you so much folks! @zach: With a magnifying glass, a calm pulse and good superglue ("VMS glue on power!"), I somehow managed to do it that way. I was amazed myself! 😉 @Michael: You were in London and saw her? I envy you!

Am I jumping the gun by wondering how this release will compare to Kitty Hawk’s offering? Pretty sure that was quite an improvement over Airfix’s original but given what they’ve been putting out as of late…
17 January, 04:09

Kittyhawk might have had nicely fine moulding detail. which will be better than airfix. but i have read on various forums. And covered to death on Britmodeller. the kittyhawk was a nightmare to build with bad fitting parts. Zimi models have aquired kittyhawk. so their entire range may work its way back out again
17 January, 13:36

Gotcha. I've had a copy of KH's GR.1/GR.3 in the stash, but it just hasn't progressed onto the build stack. I'm sure I will pick up a copy of this release as well. Damn OCD.
2 20 January, 06:36

I would have been interested in the proposed 1/32nd Jag they were planning on releasing. But I think they were already in financial difficulty at that point. And never made it past cad renders
20 January, 16:27

I've got the KH Jag in build atm and although I would say I'm a competent amateur modeller the KH Jag goes together OK.
3 19 February, 17:46

Mike, are you not happy with the latest Airfix kits? I think they have done some fantastic work over the last 10 years.
1 10 April, 06:24

Well the verdict is in. Most reviewers are saying this is the finest airfix tooling to date. And the scope of aftermarket accessories will only further improve an already spectacular kit. God help my wallet when I want 8 of these
4 10 April, 15:25

Apart from all the flash on the undercarriage retraction jacks etc. a poorly fitting clear chisel nose piece, and no options to do flaps, slats and undercarriage up its an improvement. As for finest kit, well seeing as i paid for my kit and the reviewers probably got theirs for free, i'd say no..far from it.
18 April, 19:20

I HAD the Kitty Hawk kit and did a trial fit and quickly rid it from my collection. The fit was so bad I then went through all of my other Kitty Hawk kits and most of them were dreadful fitting as well ... T-45 gone, Super Etendard gone, Dauphin gone, and F-35A gone. I almost got rid of 2 Su-17M4 but decided I could use them for spare parts for another kit - their fit stinks to high hell as well. It can be no surprise why Kittyhawk went out of production. Kinetic is probably just as bad.

Painted with MRP paints. Note there is preshading, no wash. The MRP doesn't seem to go into the panel lines so you get a nicely muted wash effect. The serial number on the wing bottom is difficult. I wanted to mask and spray but the angles of the 'W' are so sharp that mask got distorted too much. It took quite some trouble to get rid of the silvering of the decal. Same with the 155 on fuselage which I should have masked and painted.

Started working on the armoured doors for in the of the bunker. Making them of plastic sheet.
26 September 2023, 19:56

Working on the bunker parts goes pretty well. First adding filler, then sanding to create smooth concrete. Repeating that process just as much as needed to get all of the concrete looking smooth. After that I'm gonna add the lines of the woodwork that stayed behind in the concrete after it had dried.
11 October 2023, 08:14

Started adding the lines of the woodwork on the inside parts of the bunker. Really satisfied with the result so far.
16 October 2023, 19:50

Thanks Mathias. I hope so too. 🙂 Besides that everything is going well so far it's also alot of fun working on this project. Let's see where I can take this.
17 October 2023, 18:41

Also started adding lines of the woodwork on the other wall of the other inside part of the bunker. Sanded the rounded part of the bunker smooth enough to add the lines of the woodwork there too. Work on one of the two armored doors is nearly finished.
23 October 2023, 18:55

Finished and placed the armored doors. Added pics of 3 of 4 figures of the MiniArt set. I replaced one MiniArt head with a Tamiya head (the already painted one)
29 October 2023, 18:56

All four MiniArt figures are build. Next step is to paint them. Work on the Tamiya figures had begun. I've added a number inside the bunker. I tried 3 times but it's not getting better than this I guess. Still not satisfied with the result though.
12 November 2023, 19:51

Glued the separate parts of the bunker together. Glued alot of ammo boxes the last couple of weeks. Put them in front of the bunker in a sort of test set up together with 2 of the figures.
26 November 2023, 18:59

After quite a while working again also on this project. Drawing the lines of the woodwork with a pencil and then creating them by using Vallejo putty.
1 11 March, 20:42

Adding the lines of the woodwork in the concrete comes along pretty nicely.
15 March, 18:59

Besides adding the shuttering lines and doing paintwork, I also started with painting the camo scheme. Doing it free hand.
1 10 April, 16:29

Added pics of how the bunker looks like as of April 18. I almost rounded the first corner.

Thanks! I picked up a bunch of these Planet Models kits a while back as they tend to be of interesting subjects avoided by other kit manufacturers. It seems to be a fairly decent, simple kit. I needed a break from a couple of other models that I'm working on. This box kept falling off the shelf so I figured it was telling me that I should pick it to build!
26 February, 20:38

I have the Aichi H9A1 from this brand in my stash. I hope to build someday.
The good thing about your kit is that it includes most of the parts in injected plastic (I think from the MPM mold) since it is a conversion. I didn't know that Planet Models had kits like this 👍
1 27 February, 19:36

Yes, I think you're right that it's from an old MPM kit of another similar plane. As you can see, it replaces the fuselage halves, cowl, and a few other parts in resin (and I think one in clear plastic). It's actually going together fairly well. I did have a problem last night where once you join the wings to the fuselage, you have these tiny square gaps that are covered with some small square kit parts. Well I had everything all assembled and was doing the last square part, and it fell into the fuselage and got stuck at the far end of one of the wings. Let's just say a few naughty words were said. Thankfully I was able to pop off the wings fairly easily (nice thing about using CA to join the plastic wings to the resin fuselage) and dig out the part.
I have a few other Planet Models kits that I picked up for fairly inexpensive prices over the last couple of years. I might do the SNC-1 Falcon alongside this one since they both have yellow wings. The SNC-1 is an all-resin kit though.
SNC-1 Falcon (Planet Models PLT107, 1:48)
27 February, 20:51

Nice aircraft 👍
If you prefer it in plastic, you have the Kora model in 1/72 scale:
SCM Search: 1:72 kora SNC-1*
Or Dora Wings ones model in 1:48 scale:
Curtiss-Wright SNC-1 Falcon II (Dora Wings DW48041, 1:48)
1 28 February, 19:20

Thanks Cuajete, the Dora Wings kit looks very nice. I'll start with the Planet Models kit and see what happens. I tend to use a lot of aftermarket with my builds, so building with resin doesn't bother me too much.
Back to the Gamma 2J, there is very little out there on this plane. The 2J was a single production trainer, and there was a 5D model that went to Japan. Very few pictures, etc., so I looked at the A-17 which was a very similar plane. While looking at the A-17, I came across this old MPM kit of the A-17 from 2002. It's definitely the base kit that was used for the plastic parts of the Planet Models Gamma 2J/5D kit.
A-17 (MPM Production 72504, 1:72)
1 1 March, 17:02

Great, Landlubber Mike! 👍
The union of the plastic with that resin looks very good 👍
1 1 March, 18:56

Thanks Cuajete! And thank you for following Robert!
Yesterday I worked on the canopy. It's a tricky part as the back part of the canopy piece actually serves as part of the fuselage. So, it's been a little tricky figuring out how to cut it out from the clear plastic sheet. Thankfully the kit gave four canopies. Two are used for the 2J and the other two for the 5D -- but it's unclear which is used where from the instructions, and the only thing I see that's different is a little bubble near the front of the canopy. I used one that had a scratch on it as the test piece. I then used a second to get a close approximation, but the third piece seems to work the best. Unfortunately the kit doesn't give any masks, so I've been spending a lot of time masking the various window panes. Hopefully will have that done today, and will be able to start with the primer coat this evening.
1 2 March, 16:58

Thank you Cuajete! Took me a while to get here but I like the colors on this one. Tonight I'm hoping to get the decals on.

I'm not so happy about results - had to use acrylic varnish (Model Master) and it was last time for this one, you can see whitish deposite specially on dark colour. You should remeber to stick to good one that you were using, Mr Hobby in my case.
The second one is that i had to use Sparmax Beattle with Ammo Matt Shadows, all of this due to home conditions.
Overall i think i could do better, lesson for the next build.
