Mirage Hobby Subs 1/400
The little extras. In the end only the small subs made it into the final builds. The little chopper maybe I'll do later, but the detailing is really low,
Shitty primer...
Did the wood decks in wood color. Should have done the reverse and made them gray and then dry brush on the wood. Turned out that the grey oils and washes didn't cover as much as planned.
Hard to believe that this is how they would look out of box minus the scopes and guns. No railing was included
trying to keep track of 5 sets of itty bitty guns
Barrels from Aber and gun shields from Tom's Hardware
The two type VIIs got PE rigging, but I ripped it off, it just looked horrible. Now changed to normal rigging thread. Added a grey paint on the lines as well otherwise they just "disappear" against the background
And done!
Also done!
Done, The victory pennants where a pain in the derriere, but I managed to salvage two at least. Mounted them on tin foil, but they where still very fragile
The whole pack

How you assembled these four alone without losing parts is a wonder in its own right!

I heard on the Modeling insanity podcast that using tape with the sticky side up when cutting was a good way to keep stuff from popping off into the carpet, and that was a real saviour 🙂

Album info
I got hold of some cheap Mirage Hobby subs and tried to also get the photo etch parts, but they seem very hard to find. In the end I used Tom's Hardware's set for Type VII and used some parts also for the Type IX's. For the railing I used Aber's ship railing in 1/400, and for barrels and scopes it's again Abers sets. I wanted to see if I could make these into something that looked a bit better than I initially thought.
