Pylon and aircraft assembled and primmed.
Pylon and aircraft assembled and primmed.
Pylon, plane and its parts painted
Cut a styrene sheet to make the covers of the pylon, which were not provided by the kit.
Prepared pylon covers to paint them red. Will leave the white styrene color as is.
Ike has wheels!!
Works on "Ike on pylon" diorama progressing. Pylon checkered panels primed, I reprimed the pilot (paint had not fixed) and Ike is now on its wheels.
Checkered Pylon covers painted.
Unfortunately the decals from the original sheet, just flaked when I tried to apply. Thus I had to make my own decal sheet, based on the instructions I have found on the kit description in scalemates.
Modified the attachment from the pylon to the airplane, using thin brass tube, instead of plastic support of the kit.
Modified the base of the pylon from an "X" shaped base to a styrene covered balsa block.
Manufactured decals fit nice on the "Ike", Miss Chevrolet.
Botttom decals applied. The transparent tube, was cut from a pen ink tube, and will anchor the pylon brass tube.
Airplane, pylon and base, with earth texture applied on the styrene sheet.
Pylon structure with terrain and plants texture
Pylon with checkered red/white covers.
Airplane with moving propeller made of acetate sheet. Washing applied

Album info
Ike was entered in six events at the 1932 National Air Races, with Benny Howard at the controls for three races, in which he claimed two first-place and one second-place finishes. Both Ike and Mike were raced through the 1937 season, with 1935 being the banner year for the Howard camp. His racers won the Bendix, Thompson, and Greve trophies.
Ike was sponsored by Chevrolet, so it carried the name "Miss Chevrolet" on the spine behind the cockpit. It was equipped with a special carburetor which allowed it to capture the world's speed record for inverted flight.
