William JoelGorby - what was your approach to the camo. My thinking is to keep the engine/tender separate from the undercarriage, paint the camo and then assemble. This should minimize any retouching of the undercarriage, keeping it black.

gorbyI built it all and only then thought about painting it. 😄
Probably not the best way but it worked out in the end. Leaving the underside gubbins off might be a better/easier way to go about it.
Incidentally, I remember that the painting instructions only show one side view which make it a pain to work out what the other side should look like. I checked online and if it helps this is my build: Gorby's loco (but you knew that anyway). | Album by gorby (1:72)

William JoelLooked over your finished model, very nice. Noticed the red parts and the addition of the flak gun on the back, nice touch. Liked the camo too. Again, very nice job. Did it ever get into the dio that you were thinking of doing. I too plan to create one, but in the future. Regarding the side shields, I plan to attach them and then do the camo.

It won't be easy to paint the sides of the boiler if you attach the shields before painting.

William JoelGorby - looked over your dio, great job. I too have the Morser Karl completed and considered including it in a dio. I have the HobbyBoss munitions transport vehicle too, but not built.
Question - where did you get all the figures?
Regarding the shields, I came to that conclusion too, so they will be added after.

Dietmar Bogatzkithe LOK was normaly painted black or anthasit...and the wind deflectors, are only after the war

William JoelDietmar - thank you for your input. While don't disagree that many of the BR locomotives were black, some did get camo.
Even HobbyBoss provided an option for a camo pattern, which I've seen on several other completed kits; I chose to go another way, similar to another finished model I found on Pinterest. I'll post HobbyBoss's suggestions in my album for your and others reference.
Aren't we all lucky that, as hobbyists, we don't have to make our kit historically accurate. We are free to choose what we'd like to see, what might have happened in the field, like options aircraft maintenance crews for their respective plans.
As such, I guessed that my locomotive maintenance crew in the field was creative and painted their loco as I depicted.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn's Class 52[note 1] is a German steam locomotive built in large numbers during the Second World War. It was the most produced type of the so-called Kriegslokomotiven or Kriegsloks (war locomotives). The Class 52 was a wartime development of the pre-war DRG Class 50, using fewer parts and less expensive materials to speed production. They were designed by Richard Wagner who was Chief Engineer of the Central Design Office at the Locomotive Standards Bureau of the DRG. About a dozen classes of locomotive were referred to as Kriegslokomotiven; however, the three main classes were the Class 52, 50 and 42. They were numbered 52 1-52 7794. A total of 20 are preserved in Germany.
