I have mine started too (ArmaHobby 1:48 ) but masking this strips really freaks me out.

Adam, I am not really worried about the strips. What freaks me out is how I am gonna do the curvy parts like on the sides of the nose cone. Eitherway, I'll let you know how it goes in 1/72.
That kit of yours, I know it is resin, how is the fit of it?

The fit and quality of casting is rather good, but there are some difficult places. Master is 3D printed basing on true factory drawings, so I don't think we ever get better model 😉
For curve lines try new Tamiya tape for curves
[img1]
Or 3M vinyl for curves.

very nice build of a not so descent kit. Will you replace the end of the pitot-tubes by a wire or tubes at the main wings so that these are a bit more in scale?

Thank you Bart. I will replace the pitot tubes for sure. I was thinking of using pins but then I saw that some sewing needles are a bit thinner. Just let me finish the Apache, I put on most of the decals and there are 6-8 stencils left (not taking into account the 8 Hellfire missiles and the rocket pods)

Mathie Kit has serious fitting issues but it seems you managed it well. Very interesting project. I have a similar kit in the wishlist but in the version i want is out of stock. I'm talking for the arma hobby of course. I'm waiting their eshop so i can combine with some mig-29 after market they recently released!

Ari, that Arma Hobby kit is on my wish list too. I suppose it sold like crazy. Good for them! There are a few mates here that have it and started it.
The mastercraft was really a handful and I am pushing it mre with my choice of camouflage. So after that a 48th kinetic F-16 (notorius for the fit issues) must be a walk in the park. :-D

Masked off. Not thrilled with the result. There is red in places it shouldn't be and there isn't red in places it should be. Lot's of touching up needs to be done with the not so friendly white.

Yes Bart, that's what came into my mind right away and I will try it out.
Łukasz, well, I was hoping for it to be better, but it could also be much worse. Hopefully it will turn out ok, it's a good base point to take it up more.
I'll keep you posted.

Touched up. Actually I used clear decal film painted with red and applied it as decals in the problematic places. I also scraped some of the red that went over the white. Time for decals!

So I am troubled now... I have been going through pictures of the Team Iskry birds and the effect of the panel lines is very subtle or non-existent at all. So I am thinking that a wash is of no use, it will make the model toylike. When looking at the model from a close distance you can easily see the panel lines. When it is a bit further the panel lines more or less disappear as in the photos of the real thing. I came to the conclusion that white is a very tricky colour for a camo... Your thoughts?

Hello Maciej, I would let the surfaces without any outlining of the recessed panel lines. These recesses are anyway not in scale, especially on a model scale 1:72.; they are just approaches to simulate the real thing.
Looking at an real planes surfaces, there often you will find a mixture of raised and recessed lines- so flat you can hardly mold it 72 times smaller.... 🙂

Hi Maciej, my proposal would be different 🙂 I'd go for very light gray or dark alu wash, I'll try this idea soon on my SR 53 (not decided yet whether this gonna be a classic sludge wash or pencil drawn)

Some progress. I have put on the decals and after seeing tons of photos of the aerobatics team, I decided not to apply any wash at all. The lines are barely visible on the real thing and you can't distinguish them when you are starting to go away.
The panel lines in my model are already visible enough, so no need to do anything more.

Thank you Ari, Adam, Roland and Dave. Adam I got a layer of semigloss varnish and I am considering to apply a layer of gloss. Will see if I polish the Polish as Roland said 🙂 (whose adoration I humbly accept)
Dave, yes it's a putty monster, but with a little care it can come out good. Now that there is the Arma Hobby TS-11, this one is, well to put it softly, obsolete.

Thank you Calvin, Łukasz, Bernhard, Bas and Erik. Yes Erik, a lot of cleaning up with a new scalpel was required.
I am a bit puzzled, since the aircraft seems to be quite glossy in some photos and semiglossy in others. For example the one that is ready to take off is rather glossy, while the other that is parked is much less glossy.
And the ones in the video (AFW 2016) seem semigloss.
