Nice Huey Gary. Is that you or your friend in the first photo?

Thanks. That's a picture of Dan I took before we went on a mission. I was a Cobra crew chief and flew as a door gunner at times to get my flight pay. Gary

That´s a nice build, i really like the small display with the picture and decorations. Just yesterday i finished reading Chickenhawk by Robert Mason, so this Huey somehow reaches out to me.

Thanks!! Snake Pilot and Centaur Flights are 2 great books about Cobra pilots. BTW Helicopter pilots are the best pilots and are often over looked. If you have ever tried to hover a helicopter you will know what I mean. Gary S.

They are a pain to hover especially in any amount of wind. From an old Huey driver. LOL.

Great to see a build in honour of someone, not just another model that way. Great way to remember them. Thanks for recommendation n book, loved chickenhawk. Hovering, hardest thing ever done, 8 hours for me to get to that point. Unfortunately only had total of 12 hours instruction. Made me appreciate chopper pilots. Want to build an Aussie Huey gunship. We had twin 60's in door mount. Where did you get 1/48 M-60 from?

Gary
Hi Scott and Thanks Holger, The M-60's came from Italeries OH-13S kit, which was modeled after a chopper bases at Nui Dat. Were you there by chance? OH-13S or Bell 47-3 Aussie type | Album by centaur567.

I took some pics of the Aussie gunships when I had to go there to fix my Cobra. See here Aussie Hueys in Nam | Album by centaur567 Gary S.

Thanks all.. I'm not a vet, way too young, 53. My flight training was just a sampler for my job as I am engineer working for aerospace research and need to work with these guys all the time, hopefully not misled there. Reserved gunner, arty is my only service, still is, but teach tactics now

Album info

This is Eschi's 1/48th scale, labeled as a UH-1D, but has the correct antenna and pitot tubes for a "H" model.
I'm doing a memorial UH-1H build to honor my friend Sgt. Daniel Wilson, KIA Cambodia 1970. I flew with him on occasion as a door gunner.
