Hi Stephan, nice result. What Vallejo colour no. do you use for the green? By the way, the demarcation lines are really sharp and exact along the wavy lines. Do you use Tamiya masking tape or other stuff to mask it?!
Cheers, Christian

Hi Christian,
thank you for your comment 🙂
I used 71.022 as the light green and 71.124 as dark green -that combination gave the best visual result to me
For masking I used Blue tac or pata fix and covered the painted areas with towel - that's cheaper than tamyia tape😉 and you have more control about the sharpness of the wavy lines by using more or less paint on that border areas

The decals which were included are on 🙂
the instructions for the decals were sometimes unclear, some of the shown decals were not on the sheet and some were covered with tape 🙁
but so far I´m happy with the result 🙂

I think full matt finish for clothes on the figures but for the battle worn aircraft it just needs to be a touch less glossy overall, at least in my humble opinion, though this sort of thing is very subjective of course.
But overall your work presents well 👍 🙂

Excellent work and finish 👍 Stephan, how do you apply the Vallejo Acrylic Resin varnish? I always have trouble with their new formula varnishes. The varnish get a greyish effect when applied although I use Vallejo thinner.
TIA
Cheers, Christian!

Thank you Christian for your kind comment 🙂
I always use a very thin layer of that varnish
Then I let it dry for one day - check the result and may do a second layer
If you use to much in the first layer it's getting greyish as you mentioned before
May you can check your airbrush pressure- I use 0.9 bar and 0.5 needle with my Iwata 🙂

Mmmh, I use a Gabbert Triplex with nearly the same pressure but a 0,25mm needle. What you mentioned about just one thinn layer is interesting. I sprayed several thin layers one after another. So I understand you had the same problem with the varnish getting greyish but solved it by applying just one thinn layer first and let it completely dry before you add more layers.
I guess I will give it a try. If not I will stay with Windsor&Newton matt and semi gloss varnish.
Thx for your kind support😉

Stephan: you use the same paint as I just used on the Catalina but in my case the finish was too matt and no gloss at all.

This is very intresting - I also used a drop of flow improver and Vallejo thinner like you but my result was not satin but more glossy - 🤔
I will check if I used the wrong refill bottle.

I find using an oil wash over a glossy surface helps to dull the surface down in a progressive manner so you can tweak the glossiness progressively whilst adding a subtle dirt layer, I know some people use a fine sand paper and rub in cigarette ash afterwards, lots of ways to play with this satin effect.
One thing I have seen that I think is effective is having some panels glossier or matter than others as it makes the model look like it has been assembled from separate parts as per the real planes etc.
anyhow, just a thought 🙂

btw, I gotta say what a great show Dexter is, I'm enjoying watching it again and when you mentioned victim it was difficult for me not to think of that show 😄
I'm renaming my bench the slab and my shed the kill room, given how many models I have destroyed over the years haha 😄
btw. have you seen Dexter yet ?
not relevant at all I know but hey, it amused me 😄
