I can totally understand your remarks on panel lines and rivets and see that a high gloss CAG bird doesn't need that particular level of detail. It's a different thing when going for a grimey beat up line bird; that's when all those details add up to the weathering and mottled look. Still, looking at this particular build: WOW!!! Just WOW! Really well done! 👍
Very nice looking Tomcat! Only one thing - VF-154 never flew the F-14D Supers. But if they had it would have looked just like your build! 😉

main lesson learned: I got confident after painting the Dora but going back to 1/72 shows I still have a lot of room for growth as far as my airbrush skills go. Especially considering that glossy hi-viz schemes are my favorite and quite difficult to pull off. A little sad that it had to be the incredible HGW kit to suffer under my clumsy hands but oh well. A lot more mistakes to do. Otherwise I am happy how this turned out. Getting that perfect tomcat surface in 1/72 is going to be my modeller life's work I guess.
I am thinking of actually continuing with Fujimi rather than Finemolds, due to the difference in surface detail between the two. While the HGW and Hasegawa tomcats are the best in terms of panel lines and rivets, I am starting to believe that skipping them entirely might result in a significantly better overall effect. Might also need a better airbrush too🙂
