Blanik and Krtek
"Straight out of the box"... The kit requires some scratch building like the instrument panel and pedals. I also added more styrene on the window frame for making sure the clear part fits.
Almost ready cockpit. The elevators are tilted like they are in the ground.
Cockpit in place and the fuselage joints are being smoothed.
Still smoothing. The masked canopy is added.
Wings are glued with basic thin cement. The primer is Mr.Surfacer 1000 that is sanded smooth.
Black gloss primer coming up.
I only had Vallejo Metal Color Dull Aluminium in my storage so it will be the main color. I'm trying to make it more shiny.
The metallic paint by Vallejo has been very problematic, so I stopped to querrel with it and continued to paint red stripes and started to put on decals. The yellow arrow is from my leftover box.
Decals are in place. Here is the Krtek (Mole) with a bottle of rum. Ylona Staller (or Ilona Staller) is also known as Cicciolina. I don't know, why her name is written here.
Now started the making of the Mole. Here is printed about a 9mm high picture of this famous character. I planned to use that tin wire as a skeleton, but it didn't work.
First time I sculpt something, but this mole is just too damn small. I gave up to make it whole at once and instead made hands separated and the body is just balls like a snowman. The material is Green Stuff World Super Sculpey Medium Blend that was nice to handle. It had to be baked in an oven in 130C.
The last part, the landing gear, in its place.
The Mole is getting a hairstyle.
A lot of Surfacer 500 to make it a more mole-like.
Blanik must wait a couple of days before I add satin varnish. It doesn't have much of weathering except the landing wheel. The Mole is pretty successful.
Blanik has its satin varnish coat and the canopy masks are removed. It is waiting for grass mat to be arrived. It has quite a span compared to Agro Turbo.
little back window is filled with Micro Kristal Klear.

Nice work so far! How was the fit of the canopy to the fuselage?

Thanks! To make the canopy fit I added those styrene strips to lift it. The canopy was also wider (about less than 1mm) than the original fuselage so I tried to narrow the canopy with hot water and a gentle squeeze, and I put a tiny strip of 0,4mm styrene sheet between the fuselage halves. Still it's not perfect and has some of Micro Kristal Klear filling the gaps.

From the sculpted mole to the Blanik-La Cicciolina connection (!!!) this project gets more and more interesting! Good work!

Great little glider, although I believe that it still has quite the wingspan in 1:72.😉
I really love the mole, he looks great. 👍 Did you use acrylics to paint him?

Thanks, WhiteGlint! I did paint the Mole with acrylics. I haven't done any figure painting before and my expectations for brush painting acrylics were pretty low. Most of my paint are Vellojo Air and some regular Vallejo-paints were pretty thick. Fortunately I succeeded somehow by using Vallejo Flow Improver, that prolonged the drying time and thinned suitably the paint.

Thanks for the tip with the flow improver and paint drying retarder, S M. 👍
I tried some figure painting not that long ago, too. The results were... okay, for the first time, I guess.
It's a lot different than painting aircraft or tanks.
