Porsche 917 K 1971 Heller 1/24
Checking body parts fit.
Which is not within Tamiya level.
Colour checking for the engine.
First set of parts being assembled.
Rather curious the way Heller managed to mould these tyres ....
In two parts each.
I added a thin strip of silver decal to simulate the gasket on the throttle slide castings.
When checking the fitting of the engine to the chassis I found out that the fan interfered with the rear bodywork .
So I had to remove it and put it some mm back later on ,,, when all the wires and hoses will be in place.
Wiring time..... 12 wires each side
Admission "trumpets" and support plates .... a strip of thin plasticard was added.
First stack of ignition wires added and painted.
Also added the oil distribution casting for the valve covers and two pulleys. All scratch-built.
The hoses ...
and the PU belt driving the fuel injection unit made from scratch.
For the second stack of ignition wires , I did it the other way round. Instead of gluing the wires to the spark-plug holes and afterwards attaching the wires together ...
first I glued the wires together in groups of 3 ...
.... painted the wires in Gunze flat red.... and then glued in place.
Time to add fuel lines .... also from 0,1 mm cooper wire.
Second stack of ignition wires in place.
... also fan and fuel lines in place.
As are the inlet "trumpets".
I'm not boring holes in the intake trumpets as they will no be seen when the cover is in place.
For this project I tryed this very tool .... it's perfect for scraping round section parts, specially small ones like the frames of the chassis. I can’t recommend it strongly enough.
This should represent the gear-change linkage at the gearbox end.
Not truly correct but that's enough for me.
The kit's seat is rather crude and also the "passenger" seat is lacking.
So I made a new one by enlarging the seat from a 1/32 Porsche 917/10 Matchbox kit ..... bicarbonate and CA glue has been used to fill the gaps

István , with a number 0 brush , Gunze flat red and carefulnes. Some red paint went to the engine and I had to make some retouching....

Following! Very interesting subject. I really do like the 917. Part breakdown of the body looks very similar to the fujimi kit wich also spots some fitting issues. The heller kit seems to have Daytona window not opened? (The one over the windshield)

Dennis ... me too ... I love the 917 ... The kit has this window marked from the inside but not opened .... You can cut the part ... but the kit (at least mine) has no clear part for that window.

Thats an improvement imho. I think you will not need it anyway because there where not many cars with that configuration (as far as I know).
Tried to build the fujimi 917k once and had major problems in filling and sanding the gaps of the plastic insert for that window. Even after primer, base color decal and clear coat the outlines where still visible. One of the reasons it ended up as a shelf queen...

Not a retro-poject even this kit is an oldie. I'll try to bring it to accetable standarts , but not going to add every nut and bolt. For instance exhausts are absolutely wrong but they will stay as is, as will some parts of the space-frame chassis. I've read that this is a difficult kit to build ,,, let's see ....
So far I've got some fitting issues with the engine to the chassis.
