hopefully no more putty work on the intakes

Album image #18
fixing the nose part 2

Album image #19
The paint somehow makes super glue dry faster, it was hard to glue the PE parts

Album image #20
Album image #21
The closed panels have near perfect fit, therefore make some convenient masking material

Album image #22
First round of priming

Album image #23
I used the photo-etch from Aires nozzles, sadly had to throw the afterburners and nozzles away...

Album image #24
Sand it down with 2000 and 4000 grit sanding sponge

Album image #25
Primed it the second time, the surface is now butter smooth! I have a good feeling about this one.

Album image #26
Album image #27
All exterior primed

Album image #28
Trying to match the textures extracted from the game, C315 with 25% of black seems to do it, I will try to mix this later.

RLM66 as a dark base for light grey

Album image #33
Album image #34
All light grey done

Album image #35
This might be my best dumb idea ever, preshading the jigsaw panels with Gundam marker

Album image #36
I need to preshade the panels black to give some color difference

Album image #37
Oh no what have I started

Album image #38
Please stop.

Album image #39
I'll just do this for the top

Album image #40
This looks oddly realistic

Album image #41
After the second coat, still not dark enough to blend with the Gundam Marker

Album image #42
All panels done

Album image #44
Ready for the main color

Album image #45
Album image #46
First and second layer: FS16440 plus drops of black

Album image #47
Album image #48
Album image #49
Third layer: the base color plus equal amount of SM204

Album image #50
I think it's a little dark

Album image #51
Fourth and fifth layer: a lot of white, drops of black and FS16440, equal amount of SM204 again, sprayed wide and wet

Album image #52
Unfortunately my pre-shadings are almost invisible, and there are some color differences on the edges, but the sheen is nice!

Album image #53
Album image #54
I used almost an entire pack of blue tak

Album image #55
FS36231 plus SM204

Album image #60
Album image #61
Did a little freehand trace on the harder edges (right)

Album image #62
Painted the faded effects according to game files

Album image #63
Perfect size and placement, they are so thin I could just cut them off as one piece.

Album image #64
Album image #65
Hasegawa decals are surprisingly difficult to work with. They are quite thin but don't conform to the surfaces well. And they don't like decal solutions either. I tried Tamiya Mark Fit and Mr. Mark Softer, both can damage the decals quite easily.

Album image #66
There's no easy way to do this

Album image #67
Ready for another coat of gloss clear, is it me or did the tone change a bit?

Album image #68
Album image #69

Album image #79
Washing the undercarriage

Album image #80
I lost F59 somewhere in the process, and had to replace it with a spare piece. Hasegawa really over-engineered this thing.

Looking really nice already.
How long did it take to do all that masking and pre-shading? 😄

@WhiteGlint It took about three days, at least quite a few hours a day. It wasn't for nothing though, the pre-shaded parts are smoother than the rest, giving it a different sheen.

Sorry, it's hard to tell from the pictures but I don't think the tone has changed.
The paintjob is great, nice work! 👍
