Rebel Alliance Y-Wing
I've always loved the look of the Y-Wing, especially in non-standard colors. I based the paint scheme and rudimentary modifications to the kit off of the first Y-Wing built for the Star Wars movies, sometimes called the "Red Jammer." The more notable modifications that I made were the removing of some details, addition of some greeblies and pipes, and, of course, the paint scheme.
The front of the starfighter was handpainted with Vallejo paints for the white portions (not my first choice, but my airbrush broke). While the red and yellow were sprayed from mixed Tamiya paints. I can't recall for sure what colors I used. Weathering was carried out with brush and sponge chipping and various oil paints.
The gray body of the Y-Wing was Tamiya Fine Surface Primer out of a rattle can. I painted some of the surface details with varying grays, mixing in tan, blue, brown, and even green to add some contrast. The jamming device in the Astromech droid slot was one of the included R2 heads sanded to shape.
Most of the hoses and pipes on the ship were painted with good ole' Testors Copper. Despite being an enamel, it's an excellent paint for handbrushing. I then coated the pipes with Tamiya Clear Flat in order to protect them from the oil washes I weathered the ship with.
