Kingdom of Bulgaria switched sides in WWII on Sep.9th 1944.
2 days later, Wehrmacht troops invaded NW Bulgaria and took the city of Kula.Their advance was stopped by hastly transferred infantry and artillery formations of Bulgaria Royal Army.A counterattack was planned and a battery of Red Army Katyusha rocket-launchers arrived and took position near Kula.In the ensuing battle the city was liberated and the German troops were expelled from Bulgarian territory.
In 1975 a monument was build in the city of Kula.It is dedicated to the Katyusha launcher and the soldiers, that fought and suffered in WWII's only battle on Bulgarian soil.
