The MiG-17F was only used for one year in Hungary between 1956-1957 before the Soviet Union took them back. Later it was replaced by the radar equipped MiG-17PM. But nonetheless, it is a beautiful aircraft, so when Airfix released this kit just a week ago, I just needed to have it in my collection. I have already built the PM version by MisterCraft - twice actually - so a newly engineered kit that doesn't require hours of filling, sanding and scratch building should be a dream.
The only picture that seems to exist of a Hungarian MiG-17F are two fuzzy, black and white photos of one in natural metal finish, lying on its belly, next to a corn field somewhere in Hungary after a gears-up landing. But they all looked the same, natural metal finish with red numbers and national insignias, so it doesn't matter which one I build. Looking at my spare decals, I guess it will be number 022,
